Most growth advice is just inherited audience

Unpopular opinion: most growth advice is inherited audience with a confidence problem. Here is the test that separates the real operators from the lucky.

Half the people teaching distribution have never distributed anything cold. They inherited an audience, posted to it, watched it perform, and called it skill.

Here is the real test. Take an idea with no reach. No list, no network, nobody who already claps for you. Now make it travel. That is distribution. Posting to people who already follow you is not reach. It is a mailing list with better lighting.

Head start versus skill

A big account posting to its own followers is not proof of skill. It is proof of a head start. The operators worth listening to can walk into a niche nobody handed them, start from zero, and still pull attention.

The move

Before you take anyone's growth advice, ask one question: did this person build from zero, or did they just arrive early? Those are completely different skills, and only the first one transfers to you.

Whose advice are you following right now, and which of the two are they?
