Open ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity and Claude and ask each to recommend the best company in your category. Then check whether the brand paying for all that marketing even gets named. Most do not.
The average brand shows up in about 17% of the answers about its own category. Four times out of five the question gets asked, you are simply not in the sentence. That is the new invisibility. Not page two of Google. Absent from the answer entirely.
There is no number one to win anymore
Ask eight models the same question and they agree on the top pick only 43.9% of the time. There is no single answer to capture. There are a dozen rooms, each citing a slightly different world, and distribution now means being present across answers that do not even agree with each other.
The move
Measure your share of model. Run the same category question across the major engines, log how often you are named, and treat that percentage like a core metric. You cannot fix a gap you have never measured.
What is your share of model right now, and would you bet on the number before you checked?
